On March 4 Sona Arevshatyan (the coordinator of EVS Charter of Fondazione Istituto Morcelliano/Youmore Morcelli Giovani) participated in the event of celebration ‘20 years of EVS’. This event was held in Palazzo della Esposizioni in Rome and it was organized by the National Agency for Youth of Italy.
Elisa Blanchi who is a rhythmic gymnast opened the ceremony and she shared her EVS experience. National volunteering organizations, tutors of the project, volunteers and ex-volunteers took part in the meeting. Their common goal was searching new ways of promoting international contacts in social, cultural and professional fields for young people. Among the guests were journalists of the Italian daily newspaper “La Repubblica” Stefano Cappellini; Luigi Bobba – Vice-secretary of the Ministry of jobs and social policy of Italy; Giacomo D’Arrigo – ANG director, Silvia Costa – president of the commission on culture of the European Parliament and Calogero Mauceri – head of the Youth department and national civil service (servizio civile nazionale).
Interesting to mention that there were also some volunteers from other countries and some ex-volunteers. Sona Arevshatyan says: “For the last twenty years there have been more than 100 thousand EVS volunteers moving overseas. I’d like to note that Lombardia region, where actually our organization works, takes the 2nd place in Italy in promotion of European Volunteer Service. Foundation Istituto Morcelliano focuses on coordinating activities with other leaders from Bergamo, Milan and Torino. Our important task now is encouraging young people participating in different projects. We want to improve transnational mobility and youth active participation”.
