Il mese di ottobre ha segnato l’inizio di un’avventura unica nel suo genere: lo scambio giovanile Take a Green Shoot in Armenia, dedicato al mondo della fotografia e dell’ecosostenibilità. Durante questo progetto, il nostro team italiano ha avuto l’opportunità non solo di affinare le tecniche della fotografia, ma anche di esplorare la cultura e la storia di un paese ricco di tradizioni. Attraverso workshop avvincenti e attività condotte in modalità peer-to-peer, i partecipanti hanno scoperto il potere delle immagini nel comunicare storie e emozioni.
Catturare l’Anima di Haghartsin, Yerevan e il Lago Sevan
Le gite in diversi luoghi simbolo dell’Armenia sono state indimenticabili. Il Monastero di Haghartsin e il lago Sevan, avvolti da un’atmosfera mistica, hanno offerto scenari mozzafiato, e le strade di Yerevan, con la loro vivacità e colori, hanno rappresentato una fonte inesauribile di ispirazione per le nostre fotografie. Una tappa imperdibile è stata la visita al TUMO Center, centro per la creatività e le tecnologie che da anni riunisce centinaia di giovani offrendo loro corsi e lezioni. Ma non ci siamo occupati solo di fotografia! In una delle nostre gite abbiamo indossato il grembiule da cucina per preparare insieme alle signore locali la gata, dolce tradizionale armeno. La sessione di cucina si è conclusa con una degustazione di vino tipico, nei territori in cui la produzione di vino affonda le sue radici.
Ma ora vogliamo dare voce ai partecipanti, a testimonianza di un viaggio che va oltre il semplice clic di una macchina fotografica!
Francesco: Ho già partecipato a molti progetti durante quest’anno, ma è sempre incredibile scoprire nuove culture e conoscere altre persone in modo più profondo rispetto a quando incontri qualcuno nella vita quotidiana. Questo progetto mi ha fatto capire qualcosa riguardo alla mia vita futura: diventerò un facilitatore per questo tipo di progetti.
Alice: Prima di venire in Armenia non avevo aspettative riguardo al paese e alla cultura, ma sono rimasta molto sorpresa. Fin dall’inizio tutto è stato fantastico e mi sono innamorata dell’Armenia, anche grazie al viaggio organizzato per noi dai facilitatori; le montagne, le chiese, la gata, tutto era incredibile. L’Armenia è stata una scoperta inaspettata e ci tornerò sicuramente.
Sveva: Le tematiche del progetto sono molto attuali e ho trovato l’idea di presentare la crisi ambientale attraverso l’uso delle tecniche di fotografia e videomaking molto interessante e innovativa, nell’ambito dei progetti Erasmus.
Stefano: Spesso la chiusura nel proprio quotidiano fa dimenticare quanto varie e meravigliose le persone possano essere, così è necessario andare fino ai confini più estremi del continente per ritrovare il cuore dell’Europa.
Sofia: Sono immensamente grata a Youmore per l’opportunità di prendere parte a un’esperienza così ricca di incontri, storie, condivisione, scoperte, paesaggi che sembrano cristallizzati nel tempo, e connessioni uniche. L’Armenia sarà sempre nel mio cuore!
Riccardo: Per me è stata un’esperienza notevole, le persone conosciute fantastiche, l’apertura mentale trovata fa sperare in un buon futuro.
Eneda: Tsaghkadzor, per quanto viaggiassi senza il tempo di farmi delle aspettative, si è rivelata un autentico tesoro naturale e così le persone che ho conosciuto. I colori autunnali ci hanno accompagnato durante tutte le visite tra monasteri antichi ed escursioni mozzafiato, anche nella capitale la convivenza tra gli edifici più innovativi – come il TUMO Center for Creative Technologies – e i ricordi dei più antichi eventi – quale il complesso memoriale del Genocidio armeno – hanno contribuito alle emozioni di questa esperienza. Vorrei davvero che chi leggesse queste parole potesse esperire tutte le sensazioni di questo progetto, attraverso le foto e i video ognuno dei partecipanti ha cercato di catturarlo nella propria memoria digitale e psicologica. Eppure questo è dire tutto e niente, siamo continuamente bombardati da immagini e strumenti visivi…quello che abbiamo imparato è proprio questo: che senso ha una fotografia? Perché renderla green? Le fotografie sono mute eppure hanno qualcosa da dire: durante questo progetto una cinquantina di persone provenienti da Italia, Spagna, Bulgaria, Georgia, Germania, Armenia hanno imparato e insegnato l’importanza di “Take a green shoot” e cosa significa scattare una fotografia che colga gli aspetti più fragili e potenti che la Natura e l’ambiente ci vogliono comunicare.

Beyond the Lens: Results of the Take a Green Shoot Project and Testimonials from Our Team
October marked the beginning of a truly unique adventure: the youth exchange program “Take a Green Shoot” in Armenia, dedicated to the worlds of photography and eco-sustainability. Throughout this project, our Italian team had the opportunity not only to refine photography techniques but also to explore the culture and history of a country rich in traditions. Through engaging workshops and peer-to-peer activities, participants discovered the power of images in conveying stories and emotions.
Capturing the Soul of Haghartsin, Yerevan, and Lake Sevan
The trips to various symbolic places in Armenia were unforgettable. The Haghartsin Monastery and Lake Sevan, wrapped in a mystical atmosphere, offered breathtaking scenery, and the streets of Yerevan, with their vibrancy and colors, proved an endless source of inspiration for our photographs. A must-visit was the TUMO Center, a hub for creativity and technology that has been bringing together hundreds of young minds through courses and lessons.
But it wasn’t all about photography! During one of our outings, we put our cooking aprons on to cook the traditional Armenian dessert, “gata,” with some precious local ladies. The cooking session concluded with a tasting of typical wine, in a region where wine production has deep-rooted traditions.
Now, let’s give the floor to the participants, sharing their voices from a journey that goes beyond the simple click of a camera!
Francesco: I’ve already participated in many projects this year, but it’s always amazing to discover new cultures and get to know people on a deeper level than you do in everyday life. This project made me realize something about my future life: I’ll become a facilitator for these kinds of projects.
Alice: Before coming to Armenia, I had no expectations about the country and the culture, but I was very surprised. From the beginning, everything was amazing, and I fell in love with Armenia, thanks also to the trip organized for us by the facilitators; the mountains, the churches, the gata, everything was incredible. Armenia was an unexpected discovery, and I will definitely come back.
Sveva: The project’s themes are very relevant, and I found the idea of presenting the environmental crisis through the use of photography and videomaking very interesting and innovative, within the context of Erasmus projects.
Stefano: Often, closing oneself off in daily life makes you forget how varied and wonderful people can be, so it’s necessary to go to the farthest corners of the continent to rediscover the heart of Europe.
Sofia: I am immensely grateful to Youmore for the opportunity to take part in an experience so rich in encounters, stories, sharing, discoveries, landscapes that seem crystallized in time, and unique connections. Armenia will always be in my heart!
Riccardo: For me, it was a remarkable experience, I met fantastic people, and the openmindedness I found gives hope for a great future.
Eneda: Tsaghkadzor, despite leaving without enough time to form expectations, turned out to be a genuine natural treasure, and so were the people I met. The autumn colors accompanied us throughout all the visits to ancient monasteries and breathtaking excursions. Even in the capital city, the coexistence of the most innovative buildings – such as the TUMO Center for Creative Technologies – and memories of historical events – such as the Armenian Genocide Memorial Complex – contributed to the emotions of this experience. I really wish that anyone reading these words could experience all the sensations of this project, through the photos and videos; each of the participants tried to capture it in their own digital and psychological memory. Yet, this is to say everything and nothing; we are continuously bombarded by images and visual tools… what we learned is precisely this: what sense does a photograph make? Why make it green? Photographs are silent, yet they have something to say: during this project, around fifty people from Italy, Spain, Bulgaria, Georgia, Germany, Armenia learned and taught the importance of “Take a green shoot” and what it means to take a photograph that captures the most fragile and powerful aspects that Nature and the environment want to communicate to us.
